Update: IPRental is no longer available and you should look for other hide IP tools.

For bloggers, journalists and other people located in countries with government-imposed firewalls that block access to a variety of content, IPRental offers a unique solution.

What is IPRental?

Much easier to use than standard proxy services, IPRental users just download a program and then log in to the app (after they register and get a username and password) then hit Connect. You then get fast USA IP address which you can change as often as you like.

The thing that makes this solution unique and great is that they do not have a set number of IPs from some contiguous blocks like all normal proxy services do. Instead, they get a never-ending always fresh supply of residential USA IP addresses.

China, Myanmar, Iran, and the Arab Countries that block content have typically already blocked the IPs of major providers like Hide-My-IP.com and Anonymizer.com, but with IPRental, since they are getting a new stream of IPs all the time, it’s impossible for governments and other entities to block you when using the service.

Available plans

IPRental sells a variety of packages, but for $19.95/month you get the media server which works great, the other services are more expensive and mostly tailored to hard-core Craigslist posters and folks that do other gray market activities.

IPRental alternatives

What are the IPRental alternatives? Try a free VPN service or go for a paid subscription. There are plenty of good VPN providers that you can use. They offer superior speed and connection reliability. Here are several such VPN services that I recommend at this time:

VPN Provider

Price

HideMyAss

from $11.52/month

ibVPN

from $4.95/month

NordVPN

from $10.95/month

IPVanish

from $10/month

PureVPN

from $9.95/month

ExpressVPN

from $12.95/month

Another alternative is to subscribe to a VPN service that offers a free trial. You may find here a list.

Would you like to watch RTL, ZDF, VOX, SAT1 or Pro7 from outside Germany? Then you need to get a German IP address. In order to change your IP address to a German one, you have several alternatives that I listed below.

What is a German IP address?

A German IP address is assigned to an ISP or hosting provider that provides Internet services in Germany. The most common German IPs have the following format:

2.160.0.0 to 2.175.255.255 (Telekom Deutschland)

31.224.0.0 to 31.255.255.255 (Telekom Deutschland)

46.80.0.0 to 46.95.255.255 (Deutsche Telekom)

53.0.0.0 to 53.255.255.255

77.0.0.0 to 77.15.255.255 (Telefonica Germany)

Are you interested in finding more info regarding the German IP blocks? Check this post.

3 Ways to get a German IP address

1. Manually change your IP using paid or open proxies

A good solution to change your IP to one from Germany is by using the open or paid proxies. They are quite stable and provide fair speed. But, you may need to pay attention to your privacy. DO NOT enter your credit card details or other sensitive info while browsing using open proxies.

You may find proxies with German IP addresses on Free-Proxy.cz or Samair.ru. After you choose one you need to set up your browser to use that proxy. Take for example 178.238.229.236:80 and configure your browser to use it when you connect to the internet.

Next, if you don’t know how to manually change your IP you should check these posts:

Google Chrome – How To Hide Your IP While Browsing Using Google Chrome

Microsoft Edge – How to Setup a Proxy for Microsoft Edge

Internet Explorer – How To Manually Hide Your IP Using Internet Explorer

Firefox: How To Manually Hide Your IP

Safari – How To Manually Mask Your IP Using Safari

2. Use Web Proxies

A simpler method is by using a web proxy. Unfortunately, such proxies are usually too slow and unreliable for online streaming. To use such a web proxy simply visit the proxy site, type in the desired URL and press the Go or Submit button. Thus, the site is loaded from the IP of the proxy, not from your IP address.

One such a web proxy with a German IP address is Teleport. Also, you may Google for “German web proxy”. If you know more feel free to share them in the comments below.

Important! Before starting to use a web proxy please read the following post: Risks of using a proxy site.

3. Use a VPN service

The best solution is by using a VPN service. They are more secure and reliable as the connection is encrypted.

Here are several VPN providers that provide German IP address:

HideMyAss – Munich (6 servers), Nuremberg (8), Berlin(3), Dusseldorf(2), Frankfurt(12)

ibVPN – Frankfurt (4 servers)

PureVPN – Munich (18 servers), Berlin(18), Hessen(6)

NordVPN – 59 servers

ExpressVPN

If you know others please share them in the comments. Also, you may check a complete list of VPN providers.

German channels that you can unblock

Next, here is a list of all the German channels that you can watch live outside Germany with a VPN:

RTL, RTL Now, RTL2 Now, RTL2, SuperRTL Now

Zatoo.de

Amazon.de

ARD Mediatek

Sat1, Sat1Gold

Prosieben, Pro7Maxx

Sixx

Kabeleins

Fem

Advopedia

Galileo TV

Watchever

Newtopia

7TV

VOX, VOXNow

Das Erste

Kinox.to

SkyGo.de (Do you want to access SkyGo UK? Use a Sky VPN.)

ZDF

NightClub

To sum up, there are several options when you need to change your IP address to one from Germany. I would go for a VPN, but you may also try web proxies or open proxies.

How to test it

While using the UltraSurf, you will be able to view all websites just like everyone else that uses the regular Internet Explorer browser.
What is Ultrasurf?

The UltraSurf is a proxy application that connects to proxy servers and hides your public IP address. Along with this, you will not have any annoying ads or annoying pop-ups.

Now, that you know what the UltraSurf is you are probably wondering what it means. As an Internet user, Ultrasurf allows you to have online freedom, bypass Internet censorship, and get your hands on the information available online (including the one that is geo-restricted).

No matter if you are at work or school you will be able to bypass the firewalls that are put there to ensure you do not visit websites your company or school does not want you to view. You may not realize this, but many companies and universities block access to various social sites, thus stopping your freedom. With this tool, you will be able to browse all the social websites such as Facebook, Youtube, Myspace, Orkut, Hi5, and Linkedin to name a few of the most popular.

How to install Ultrasurf

Here is what you have to do to install Ultrasurf on Windows operating system:

Download UltraSurf from UltraReach site.

Save the u.zip file somewhere on your computer.

Unzip u.zip file

Run u.exe

You can switch between 3 proxy gateways to choose the fastest one.

Go to XMyIP.com and check your new IP.

When you need to return to your real IP just Exit.

Also, you may install the UltraSurf Chrome extension from here. Thus, you may use Ultrasurf on your Mac or Linux system as well.

How to Configure Firefox to work with Ultrasurf

One of the few downsides of Ultrasurf is that it does not automatically configure Firefox.

If you want to browse using Firefox and being anonymized by Ultrasurf you have 2 options:

Install the GProxy Firefox add-on.

Manually configure Firefox to use Ultrasurf servers/proxy.

The Firefox problem

One of the few problems of UltraSurf is that when used it does not automatically change the proxy settings for Firefox. This means that it does not change your IP address when browsing with Firefox. You have to change these settings manually. Not very convenient, isn’t it?

To solve this problem, a Firefox add-on is available for download that does exactly this: changes the proxy settings when using UltraSurf. The plugin lets you enable and disable the tool on the bottom bar of the browser. You still need to have the application running, but at least you don’t have to change the proxy settings every time you want to use/ stop using it.

GProxy Firefox Plugin

Here is what you have to do to make it work:

Open Firefox.

Download the GProxy Firefox add-on. that allows the configuration of the Ultrasurf proxy.

Open the add-on.

Choose Ultrasurf.

Manual configure Firefox Ultrasurf

The manual configuration is very simple and requires no special tech skills. Here are the steps you have to perform:

Start Firefox

Go to Tools -> Options…

Choose the Network tab and press Settings button

In the Connection Settings window, check Manual proxy configuration:

In the same window, fill in the HTTP Proxy and the Port taken with the following values: 127.0.0.1 as HTTP Proxy and 9666 as Port (take a look at the picture above).

Press Ok and then Ok again.

Start Ultrasurf (if it is running you see a locker on the bottom-right side of the screen).

Go to XMyIP.com and check your IP address. It should show one of the IP addresses used by Ultrasurf. You can now browse anonymously.

What does this do?

You are probably asking yourself what exactly you just did. The explanation is simple. Ultrasurf works as a proxy for many apps including browsers like Internet Explorer. But, you need to configure Firefox Ultrasurf in order to make the browser use the Ultrasurf proxy. Thus, Firefox will redirect all the Internet traffic through port 9666 used by Ultrasurf on the local machine, 127.0.0.1.

Important!

Do not forget to change your Connection Settings from Manual proxy configuration to Direct connection to the internet, after you exit the proxy app. If you don’t, you won’t be able to browse using Firefox as the Internet traffic will continue to be redirected through the local machine proxy.

Ultrasurf Pros & Cons

I have compiled a list of pros and cons in order to compare UltraSurf to other hide IP tools:

Pros:

It is free!

It hides your IP address.

Very simple and easy to use interface, very suitable for beginners. No user guide needed.

It includes delete browser history and deletes cookies features.

It provides fast proxies.

You may use the Ultrasurf Chrome extension on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.

Cons:

The proxies are from the US only.

The interface is available only in English.

Will UltraSurf influence my firewall protection?

Here is an interesting question I have received on the Ask Us page.

Q: I want to surf anonymously from my home computer. I live in The Netherlands, so do not have a government firewall to contend with. I just do not want my ISP or the likes of Google to see which sites I visit.

I have Comodo firewall installed.

Can I use UltraSurf (from ultrareach.com), or will it influence my firewall protection against malware negatively?

A: Is hiding my IP address affecting the firewall protection? The answer is simple: NO.

UltraSurf, as other hide IP products, offers proxies that act as an intermediate between you and the site you visit. The firewall is not bypassed in any way by using such software. So you can continue using UltraSurf without worrying about malware.

Q: Can I use Ultrasurf if the port 9666 is locked?

A: Unfortunately, there is no way to run it if port 9666 is blocked. This port is used by Ultrasurf to connect to the Ultrareach servers and re-route your traffic.

As mentioned in the Ultrasurf Faq / Question 11, in the future versions it will be possible to change the port from 9666 to various port numbers overcoming this problem, but this is not possible in the current version (9.4).

How UltraSurf gets blocked

Symantec has published an article explaining how to block UltraSurf using Symantec Endpoint Protection. This is done based on the fingerprints that UltraSurf leaves.

Ultrasurf can be identified when attempting to start or while running using several finger prints. Every version of Ultrasurf has a certain finger print. These are used by Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) to block the Ultrasurf process. Below you can see the different fingerprints for the Ultrasurf variants available in the web (as they are listed by Symantec):

1. UltraSurf 9.4 (.exe)
md5: 11bc744801b516d0b84fba5850ec8789
2. UltraSurf 9.4(.zip)
md5: 8aed5412df0f621e399c78a7f408c6fb
3. UltraSurf 9.2 (.exe)
4b498bcac14da546f420cd08bae1894b
4. UltraSurf 8.9 (.exe)
f556271e1338dfc224cbebf6fe8f8eae
5. UltraSurf 8.8 (.exe)
4e3a66482ef96368251d91b4f5ae0fda
6. Firefox add-on (.zip)
md5: 6ce151b1b0ef8430031a8e9a69f38806

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) can be used to block certain applications. These finger prints are exactly what SEP needs to identify a process and terminate it. For more details on the settings need to block Ultrasurf check the Symantec article.

Is Ultrasurf a trojan?

One of the readers of this article signaled that the tool is seen as a Trojan by McAfee anti-virus. At first, I thought it must be a mistake. Then, after a little bit of research, I start thinking that UltraSurf may be indeed a threat.

Ultrasurf and McAfee

Here is the page from the McAfee database that describes it as a threat:

This means that McAfee sees Ultrasurf as a trojan to your computer and tries to delete it.

More info about why it is seen as virus/trojan/threat I found <del>here</del> [page not available anymore], on ThreatExpert.com. According to them:

Produces outbound traffic (on port 443)

Opens ports in the system (1033 and 1034)

Downloads/requests other files from the Internet

On Trojaner-Board, a user has tested UltraSurf with several anti-virus tools and it seems that it is also seen as a threat by:

CAT-QuickHeal 10.00 – (Suspicious) – DNAScan

F-Secure 8.0.14332.0 – Backdoor.Win32.Agent.uwi

Kaspersky 7.0.0.125 – Backdoor.Win32.Agent.uwi

Prevx1 V2 – Malware Downloader

Thus, the app is seen as Generic Backdoor by several anti-virus solutions.

What to do next

You can consider using other hide IP solutions. Here is our list of hiding IP tools.

If you are confident UltraSurf is no threat to your computer and you have McAfee anti-virus installed, you should perform the following steps every time to you what to browse anonymously:

Stop McAfee

Download the file

Start using UltraSurf

When you are done, delete the file and start McAfee.

Also, there are anti-virus tools that allow you to specify a whitelist. If this is the case for McAfee, you should add UltraSurf file to the whitelist.

Developer denies Ultrasurf is malicious

Rumors regarding Ultrasurf being a malware got stronger and stronger. Now, a developer from the UltraReach team explained the Ultrasurf strange behavior.

Ultrasurf is a proxy tool that is used to hide the IP address and masks where traffic is being sent to and received from. The main goal of Ultrasurf was to keep the Chinese government’s Internet filters from detecting forbidden communication.

Is Ultrasurf malware?

Lately, Ultrasurf was suspected to be a trojan due to its strange behavior and traffic sent to different locations. On Wilders Security Forum, SteveTX, member of XeroBank team, explained in detail what Ultrasurf does and concluded:

UltraSurf and Gtunnel and likely all products put out by the Global Internet Freedom Consortium / Internet Freedom.org are in fact secret trojans. They give you a 1-hop proxy but use your system to launch attacks against financial institutions, government and energy websites, education, etc. Now here is the scary thing, if you are logged into one of these domains, like your bank, then they can get access to your authenticated session/cookie and potentially break right into your account, THROUGH YOUR OWN COMPUTER.

Last month, at the Black Hat security conference, Kyle Williams, security director of XeroBank, said that UltraSurf automatically attempts to make HTTPS encrypted connections to servers unrelated to the UltraSurf proxy network.

“How does it know I got an invalid server if the traffic is really end-to-end encrypted?” Williams says. He also noted these odd behaviors:

When the client appears to connect to an IP address within a private network, it probes sequentially close IP addresses as well.

When an UltraSurf client seeks a non-existent URL via HTTPS, it receives a response from an UltraSurf server

UltraSurf taps a Google Reader RSS feed for updates that Williams interprets as lists of targets for the software to probe.

Commercial anti-virus software detects UltraSurf as a Trojan.

David Tian, a scientist for NASA who works spare-time on UltraSurf, addressed each behavior, but the main idea was that UltraSurf does an ever-changing variety of strange things in order to fool the Great Firewall of China. The response from UltraSurf servers to attempts to reach non-existent URLs is due to the proxy network sending back a notification. It proxies all the communication including SSL so any response will be from a proxy.

This is done due to the fact that Chinese authorities monitor UltraSurf carefully and try to identify signatures that can be used to set filters, so the software sends out useless traffic to make noise that makes it difficult to characterize the legitimate traffic.

UltraSurf programmers play a cat-and-mouse game with Chinese censors trying to block its traffic, so the team working on it has to continually alter its methods to adapt to each innovation in the Great Firewall, Tian says. “We have a great understanding of the Great Firewall and how to defeat it.”

Conclusion

To sum up, with the UltraSurf you will have freedom like you deserve to enjoy the internet as many others do that are not regulated by their government, schools, and of course their employer. It is time to fight for your freedom and bypass Internet censorship. Learn all you wish to learn that your government may not wish you knew, meet and make friends at social networking sites, and of course, have the freedom to shop until you drop with the best proxy server on the net.

Update: If Ultrasurf does not work for you, you may try using a premium VPN service like ibVPN, HideMyAss, ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access, NordVPN, PureVPN.

Do you want to access geo-restricted websites while browsing with your favorite browser? Here are the options you have for hiding IP Opera:

1. Web proxies

This is the simplest way to hide your IP from any browser you use (including Opera). A web proxy is basically a site that works as an intermediate between you and the site you want to see/access. The key point is that the site you access does not see your IP as the calling source, but the web proxy.

You can find a lot of web proxies on sites like proxy.org. What you have to do is to access such a proxy, type in your desired URL and press Go/Submit. To be sure that it does change your IP, you can first type xmyip.com and see the IP and location of the proxy.

Usually, these are used to unblock sites like YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, but they are also useful for posting on forums or other such activities.

The main disadvantage of web proxies is that they have a short life and get banned, so you have to permanently look for fresh proxies. Also, make sure read the following post: Risks of using a proxy site.

Here are some old posts that list web proxies:

MySpace proxies

Facebook proxies

2. Use open proxies

There are a lot of sites that list open proxies you can use to hide your IP. An open proxy is a proxy with an address xx.xx.xx.xx: port that can be used as an intermediate between you and the site you want to see (the same mechanism as for web proxies).

What you have to do is to go to a site like SamAir.ru, choose a proxy and then setup up your browser (Opera) to use that proxy. Further, here is what you have to do: Configure Opera to use a proxy.

3. OperaTor

You can try using OperaTor, a bundle that combines Opera browser, Tor and Privoxy. But, OperaTor will not only hide your IP. It will leave no tracks about your online activities (as every browser does). Also, Torfox may be an alternative.

4. Use hide IP Opera software

There are a lot of hide IP software on the market. The main advantage of such software is they make it easier. You don’t have you look for new and working (web) proxies and configure your browser. They do these tasks for you. If you are interested to try, you can take a look at our recommended list or reading others post I published on such software:

GPass: A Free Solution To Hide Your IP

How To Hide Your IP Using Invisible Browsing

Important! Most of these products automatically change settings for IE and Firefox. For Opera, it may be necessary to make some additional settings.

5. VPN services

The most secure way to hide IP Opera is by using a VPN service. VPNs offer a high level of encryption and superior speed. Also, premium VPN providers offer many server locations (take for example HideMyAss, ibVPN, PureVPN, ExpressVPN, PrivateInternetAccess, NordVPN).

Here are some lists of VPN providers:

United States – List of VPN Services that Provide US IP Addresses

Germany – List of VPN Services that Provide DE IP Addresses

France – List of VPN Services that Provide French IP Addresses

Asia & Australia – List of VPN Services that Provide IP Addresses from Asia and Australia

Torrent Friendly – List of VPN Services that allow P2P/Torrent traffic

6. Hide IP Opera Add-ons

Another good option for masking your IP on Opera is by using a proxy add-on. Simply go to Opera add-ons store and type proxy. Thus, you will get several results including ibVPN, the extension that I recommend.

Extra: how to use Opera Private Browsing mode and surf privately using Opera

The Private Browsing feature allows you to surf the web privately without leaving any trace of the websites you have visited. It’s useful when you are surfing using a public computer, do online banking, surf sites that you want to hide from other people.

Opera’s private browsing support both private tabs and private windows.

Open a private tab: right-click the “+” icon on the tab bar, then select New Private Tab. The private tab got a lock like an icon on the right side of the tab icon. Any browser activity within the tab is private.

Open a private window: Click on the File menu, then select New Private Window. The private window is red-colored. Any tab opened in the private window is a private tab.

Private browsing is the feature you can find on every modern web browser nowadays. But the Private Tab in Opera, which allows opening a site privately in normal browsing mode, is not found in other browsers.

Important! Remember that private mode does not hide your IP address, it only erases your browsing history! In order to hide your IP address, you need to use a proxy or a VPN solution that works with Opera (as explained to the beginning of the article). Such services create a private tunnel between your computer and the proxy / VPN servers. Thus, your online activity is hidden. Enjoy!

I got this interesting question from one of my readers: how do I send an email so that my laptop shows I am visiting Australia? It does not matter why my reader needed this, let’s see how to solve the problem. Learn how to send hide IP email.

To find the IP of an email sender is, most of the times, an easy task. This info is kept in the header of each email sent or received, so what you have to do is to find the header and know where to look for the IP. You can read in one of my previous posts exactly how to do this.

Back to the problem, if you need to make in such way that the emails you send look as coming from another country (hide IP email), you need to change your IP address.

Email Sent Using Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird

If you are using Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or other desktop application to send you emails the best solution is to use a VPN service. The downsides of this approach are that you have to find a VPN service with IP addresses in the country you need and you have to pay for them.

You may use some free VPN services like Hotspot Shield or CyberGhost VPN. If you plan to send hide IP emails on regular basis you may consider subscribing to premium VPN services that offer a large variety of locations. Here are my recommendations: HideMyAss, ibVPN, PureVPN, NordVPN.

Email Sent From Webmail

If you want to send the email from Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or webmail the solution is simple and effective. Next, here are the steps you need to perform:

1. Go to proxy4free.com and look for a proxy from the country you need (Australia for the one that asked this). You should choose a high anonymous or anonymous proxy.

2. Set up your browser to use the proxy. Here is how for to do it for different browsers:

Firefox

Internet Explorer

Opera

Safari

3. Go to XMyIP.com and check your IP address. If it shows the country you need then it is ok. If not, search for another proxy.

4. Load the webmail page (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc), log in and send the email. It may run a little bit slow.

5. You are done!

If you want to make sure this works you could send a hide IP email to you and then check the headers of the email for the IP address.

IPSharkk is a tool that makes your computer “invisible” on the web (it hides your IP address). Unlike standard proxies, where one IP is used by thousands of people, here one IP will be much less used and will make it impossible to detect that you are using a proxy.

How does IP Sharkk work?

IP Sharkk allows you to hide your IP and connect through someone else’s IP who is in your network. That basically means that you will get 100% anonymity because your real IP will be hidden.

IP Sharkk is a Network program that randomly sends a different IP signal to each member of a group of internet users who share their own IP and are concerned about their internet security. Basically, everyone shares their IP with each other and no one knows who is who because the address changes constantly.

How to get started

First, you have to download the setup. The installation is very simple (Next, Next, …) so you will have no problems. After IpSharkk initializes a window will show up on the right-bottom of your screen:

Press on “Offline” button and you will be asked to fill in your email address and to choose a username and password.

The next step is email verification. Check your email, open the email sent by IpSharkk Team and click on the link.

After your email got verified you are ready to start using the product. Go to Tools -> Login -> enter your info (email, username and password).

The final step: choose a location. You should choose a location close to you as the speed is higher. Go to XMyIP to check your new IP address.

IPSharkk Versions

IPSharkk comes in 2 flavors: the FREE version and the Premium/Gold version that costs $27/month. Below you can see the differences between the free and the premium version.

If you have restrictions on allowing public IP access or don’t want your IP known by anyone, then we have the Premium Version. This software comes with Unlimited IP Changes, is Ads Free, works with secure pages (Https), comes with dedicated Free Online Support and is Secure – No IP Sharing.

Pros and Cons of IPSharkk

Pros

It hides your IP efficiently

It has a FREE version which really works

Very easy to use

Lists an impressive number of locations/IPs

The IPs are less probable to be banned from forums and sites

Good speed

Cons

Your real IP is used by others to navigate on the internet. This is dangerous, as you real IP can be logged as a source of illegal activities.

The Premium version is quite expensive: $27/month, higher than other hide IP tools

POST is not available in the Free version

>> Download IPSharkk

P.S. If IPSharkk does not work for you, then check a VPN service like ibVPN, HideMyAss, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, PureVPN.

There was a lot of talking lately about Hotspot Shield, a free VPN service. The tool is ideal for watching Hulu, ABC, NBC, Fox or other restricted video streaming sites for visitors outside the US. As I have received a lot of questions regarding VPNs, I have gathered info from several sources that explain what VPNs are and how VPNs work to hide your IP address. Enjoy!

What is a VPN?

Virtual Private Network or VPN is an extension of Local Area Network allowing distant nodes achievable via Wide Area Network (ie. Internet) to behave (logically) like they were connected directly to LAN. VPN is often used by companies or organization to make distant workers or agencies seamlessly integrated into the same network but it can be used for other purposes too, for example for hiding your IP address.

Basically, a VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. Instead of using a dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line, a VPN uses “virtual” connections routed through the Internet.

One of the best things about VPNs is that they allow computer users to access a network via an IP address other than the one that actually connects their computer to the Internet. This service is exposed to the general public through anonymous VPN servers.

Anonymous VPN servers

Anonymous VPN servers create an encrypted tunnel which is used to route your Internet traffic, hide IP address and protect it from ISPs or system administrators’ snooping. Your email and ICQ correspondence will be safely protected as well as your Internet activity. There are different companies offering anonymous VPN access, like HideMyAss, ibVPN, PureVPN.

Here are some advantages of using anonymous VPNs servers:

Hide IP address for anonymous surfing

Secure protection against data retention.

Secure VPN connection also for WiFi/WLAN

Used for all Internet applications – Web, Email, Usenet, VoIP, P2P, Emule, Torrent, tor, …

Easy to install on MS Windows or Mac

Unlock geo-restricted content

VPN services can also be used to unlock geo-restricted websites and streaming channels. Due to the fact that such content is restricted based on the IP address of the user, by changing the IP address using a VPN service the restriction is bypassed.

Conclusion

To sum up, VPN technology uses encrypted channels and anonymous VPN servers to provide secure access to the Internet. Further, extra benefits include unlocking restricted content and protection against hackers.

Later edit: NotMyIP is not available anymore. You should check ibVPN, PureVPN, ExpressVPN, HideIpVPN or HideMyAss.

———————

I’m glad to be the first blogger that writes about a new tool that can be used to browse anonymously by hiding your public IP address. NotMyIP is a new hide IP tool, and the best thing is that it’s FREE!

Privacy-Gateway.com has released, NotMyIP, a new and free tool that can be used to hide your IP address and browse anonymously. The product is straightforward, similar to other free tools like UltraSurf or GPass.

From the press release:

The simpler it is – the better it is! Internet users do not have to spend time learning complex strategies to achieve their purpose. They only want to hide IP. Is this too much they’re asking? “Not at all!” thought Privacy-Gateway when started developing NotMyIP. Only press one button and the real IP is hidden. A new (fake) IP will guarantee users anonymous web surfing while hiding IP. What can be easier that this? And to make it even better, it uses an exclusive list of premium proxies in order to provide a new IP.

Getting started

First, you have to download it. The installation is straightforward, follow the instructions. After the installation is completed you will see the following screen:

To hide your IP, the only thing you have to do press the Change IP button. To check your new IP address visit XMyIP.com site. That’s it! It automatically configures all browsers, including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera, and Safari. No need to worry about this anymore.

When you what to browse with your real IP address click Restore IP button.

NotMyIP Pros and Cons

Here is the list of pros and cons I have come up with:

Pros:

It is FREE!

It hides your IP address and allows you to surf anonymously.

Very simple and smooth UI. Suitable for beginners. No user guide needed.

It provides fast, premium, quality HTTP proxies.

It works with all browsers tested: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Chrome, and Safari. No need for manual configuration.

It does not need any add-ons to run with Firefox.

It overcomes censorship.

Cons:

The proxies are from the US only.

There are only three proxies available. More in the commercial version, called Anonymity Gateway.

Only English user interface is available.

Not suitable for P2P applications. If you are interested in anonymous torrenting, you should check some P2P VPN providers.

To sum up: It’s great to have another excellent hide IP software on the market. Let’s hope more proxies will be available in the next versions and they will continue to be fast.

Ultrasurf vs. NotMyIP

Ultrasurf and NotMyIP are two very similar tools to hide/change your IP address. Because Ultrasurf is very well known and consequently blocked by many security products and filter, NotMyIP has gained a lot of popularity lately.

On Privacy-Gateway.com, the home of NotMyIP, I have found an interesting comparison between the two free hide IP products. From the very beginning, Privacy-Gateway team declares that NotMyIP was not built to replace Ultrasurf but more as an alternative when Ultrasurf is blocked.

Further, here is the comparison as found on Privacy-Gateway.com:

NotMyIP vs. Anonymity Gateway

Both applications are practical tools for hiding your IP address. The functioning principle is the same: they use proxies to protect your real IP address. These proxies drive your traffic, and you are not identified correctly by the sites you visit. It’s that simple!
