Even with a low browser market-share, Opera still has its fans. So it would be useful to see how Opera 10 can be configured to use a proxy.

The first step – find a good proxy

The first step, as usual, is to find a good proxy (IP:port).  Take a look to Proxy4Free.com SamAir.ru and choose a high anonymous proxy. Now you can start configuring your Opera 10 browser.

The second step – configure Opera proxy

Here is what you have to do next:

1. Open Opera 10
2. Go to Tools -> Preferences…
   
3. Choose Advanced tab and press Network in the left panel
   
4. Press Proxy Servers … button
5. In the Proxy Servers window, check HTTP:
6. Fill in the HTTP and the Port text boxes with the info taken from the above proxy list (e.g. 81.18.116.66: 8080 where the IP address of the proxy is 81.18.116.66 and the port is 8080) (take a look above).
7. Press Ok and then Ok again and you are done.

Check your IP address

After the configuration is completed go to What Is My IP page and check your new IP address. You can now browse anonymously using Opera 10.

Important! When you are done with the proxy don’t forget to uncheck the HTTP check box.

Opera proxy alternatives

If you are unhappy with the proxies you find you may switch to hide IP Opera alternatives: Opera proxy add-ons or VPN services.

The Opera proxy add-ons are easy to install and use add-ons that allow you to connect to premium proxies without any manual configuration. You may find such add-ons here. The one that I recommend is ibVPN Opera add-on.

Every time a new major version of Firefox is released, I check to see if there are any changes in the way the browser can be configured to use a proxy. Firefox 3.5 brings no changes to this area, but I will recap for the ones that don’t know. Learn how to setup Firefox 3.5 proxy.

The first step is to find a good proxy (IP: port).  Take a look at XRoxy.com. You are probably interested in changing your country, but you also must be careful to choose a high anonymous proxy.

After you have chosen the proxy you can start configuring your Firefox 3.5 browser.

How to set up Firefox 3.5 proxy

Here is what you have to do next:

1. Open Firefox 3.5
2. Go to Tools -> Options…
   
3. Choose Network tab and press Settings button
   
4. In the Connection Settings window, check Manual proxy configuration:
5. Then, fill in the HTTP Proxy and the Port took from the above proxy list (e.g. 75.126.231.173: 3128 where the IP address of the proxy is 75.126.231.173 and the port is 3128) (take a look above).
6. Press Ok and then Ok again and you are done.

After the configuration is completed go to What Is My IP page and check your new IP address. You can now browse anonymously using Firefox 3.5.

When you are done with the proxy don’t forget to switch back to No proxy.
